Take Action For Change
The Honorable Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture
U.S. Department of Agriculture
1400 Independence Ave., S.W.
Washington, DC 20250
Dear Secretary Tom Vilsack,
This letter is to express my support for a non-profit foundation to purchase and manage the most eco-friendly ski resort in the world. I believe this is a safe and viable alternative to the pending request to utilize ground water or treated sewage effluent for snowmaking.
I agree that a not-for-profit organization established to manage the Ski Resort in a manner that is both environmentally and culturally sensitive is the best alternative for all parties concerned.
I urge your office to lead this partnership with the USDA Forest Service, Tribes, conservation organizations, and all interested parties to respect the environmental and cultural integrity of the San Francisco Peaks and to provide a safe setting to enjoy winter activities.
I believe this innovative approach is in-line with President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors Initiative which promotes the protection of water sources, cultural resources and the natural environment to provide this and future generations with a special place to recreate.
The United States has endorsed the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to strengthen it commitment to Indigenous Peoples and their way of life. I strongly support this alternative which will provide an opportunity for the United States to build on this commitment.
This alternative has many positive aspects that are needed to create a foundation for a healthy and diverse community.
Sincerely,
By signing this form, your support will be sent to the Secretary and President Obama.
